SPES - Associazione Promozione e Solidarietà is a volunteering support centre. The operative philosophy behind these Centres is that of enhancing the resources already present in the region through setting up a network that allows the experience and patrimony of volunteering to be exchanged among the voluntary organizations to better their performance. In fact, volunteers organizations possess specific competences, relative to their own sector of intervention which can contribute to a reciprocal enrichment of their initiatives.

From an operative point of view, continuously updated information is provided to the organizations on the whole of the regional territory through a network of branches and head provincial centres called Case del Volontariato, and also through a virtual information circuit based on the regional volunteering portal www.volontariato.lazio.it.

SPES - Centro di Servizio per il Volontariato del Lazio organizes logistics support and free of charge counselling to volunteering organizations of the Lazio region, in the first place to those enrolled in the regional volunteering organizations register (933 organizations at the moment) in a multiplicity of areas: legal, fiscal, administrative, training, documentation, communication etc.
It organizes networking opportunities, events and promotional initiatives, support to project development and to collaboration with public administration and other local entities, also through thematic networks and National Civil Service projects.
SPES is an association of associations and therefore a direct expression of the regional volunteering world, strategically governed by a Board of Directors and the Presidency. Its financial resources are controlled by a governing body, whose components are defined by the same Law no. 266/91.
At the moment 30 units of personnel collaborate with SPES. Also, numerous projects and activities are organized in collaboration with specialists and other no profit organizations; among these research on issues of interest to volunteering and an extensive program of information technology application in volunteering organizations.
At the moment SPES also involves a dozen of volunteers and 24 volunteers in National Civil Service.

The regional seat in Rome, together with 4 provincial head centres (Latina, Frosinone, Rieti and Viterbo) are the focal points of all activities. In addition, 17 information desks and contact points are dislocated on the regional territory in order to better meet the needs of a quite complex and varied associative world. Volunteering organizations with which SPES collaborates cover the entire spectrum of social work and civic participation promotion, in social contexts very composite and different one from the other: among SPES partners there are important organizations of a global capital city as Rome is, together with tiny volunteers organizations active in small rural communities.

SPES - Associazione Promozione e Solidarietà is also a space where persons, ideas and projects meet, a crossroads of information useful for a full grasp of the volunteering world.
